How and why we use cookies

Last updated: 21 October 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how EDYCAR AUTO BODYREPAIR LTD, trading as Coventry Body Shop, uses cookies and similar technologies on this website. Our company details and how we handle personal data are in our Privacy Policy.

1. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. Websites can also save small pieces of information in your browser's local storage, which stays until it is cleared, or session storage, which is deleted when you close the tab. We call all of these "cookies" in this policy.

2. How We Use Them

  • Strictly necessary: needed for the website to work securely and to remember your cookie choice. The law does not require consent for these.
  • Functional: needed for a feature you use, such as the Nova chat or your light or dark mode choice. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
  • Analytics (optional): used only if we switch analytics on and you accept analytics cookies.
  • Maps (optional): load Google maps on our pages, only if you allow them (section 4).
  • Marketing (optional): we do not use marketing cookies. The category appears in our cookie settings so that you can make a choice in advance.

3. Cookies Used on This Website

Strictly necessary

  • PHPSESSID (cookie): keeps your visit working securely, including forms and spam protection. Secure and HttpOnly; deleted when you close your browser.
  • cookieConsent and cookieConsentDate (cookie and local storage): record your cookie choice and when you made it. Kept for 30 days, after which we ask again.
  • cookiePreferences (local storage): records your analytics, maps and marketing choices. Kept until you change them or clear your browser storage.
  • mirageMapsConsent and mirageConsentVersion (local storage): record whether you allowed or refused Google maps, and which version of our cookie choices you answered, so that a choice made before Google maps were offered never counts as allowing them. Kept until you change your choice or clear your browser storage.
  • Cloudflare, which delivers and protects this website, may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to check that a visit is genuine.

Functional

  • mirage_chat_session, mirage_chat_open, mirage_chat_consent and mirage_chat_transcript (session storage): keep your Nova chat working. Nothing is saved when a page loads. When you open the chat, the session item gets a random ID. An access token, which expires on our server after one hour, is added when you send your first message, and the session item is sent to us with each message. The other items record whether the chat window is open, that you pressed Start chat, and the conversation shown in the window (up to the last 50 messages); they stay in your browser. All four are deleted when you close the tab.
  • siteColorTheme (local storage): remembers your light or dark mode choice.
  • mirage_blog_view (local storage): remembers your preferred blog layout, grid or list.
  • mirage_repair_estimator_contact_message (local storage): carries your repair estimate summary into the contact form when you choose to send it to us. It stays on your device and is removed once the form has used it.
  • pwa_installed, pwa_install_banner_dismissed_until (local storage) and pwa_install_banner_dismissed (session storage): remember whether you have installed this website as an app, and hide the install message for 24 hours after you close it.

Local storage items stay until you clear your browser storage, unless a shorter period is given above.

Analytics (optional)

We can use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website. It is switched off at present. If we switch it on, it will run only for visitors who accept analytics cookies, it will set cookies such as _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, which last up to two years, and we will update this policy. Google may process this data outside the UK; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

4. Content From Other Websites

Some of our pages, such as the Contact page, can show a Google map. A map loads only if you allow it: by accepting all cookies or switching on Google Maps in our cookie settings, or by pressing Load map where the map would be. We remember your choice on your device until you change it. When a map loads, Google receives your IP address and browser details and may set or read its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy. Until then nothing is sent to Google: the page shows our workshop address, the Load map button and a link that opens the address on Google Maps in a new tab.

5. Managing Your Choices

When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept all cookies, reject optional cookies or choose your preferences. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page; withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. You can also block or delete cookies and clear stored data in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the website working.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when the cookies we use change. The latest version is always published on this page.

7. Questions and Complaints

If you have a question about our use of cookies, use our contact form. How to complain to us or to the Information Commission (ICO) is set out in our Privacy Policy.
