Alloy Wheel Refurbishment

We refurbish and respray alloy wheels at our workshop in Wyken, Coventry, for kerb scrapes, chipped paint and peeling lacquer. Alloy wheel refurbishment costs from £102 including VAT (£85 plus VAT) per wheel, with the final price set after inspection. We do not offer a diamond cut finish, and we do not repair cracked wheels.

What a refurbishment includes

A full refurbishment means repairing the kerb damage on the rim and respraying the wheel. Not every deep gouge can be put right by refinishing. All paintwork is sprayed in our spray booth, and our company director, the main painter, is the only person who touches the paint.

Why peeling lacquer is worth fixing early

Lacquer helps keep water and road salt off the metal. Where a chip or a peeling patch lets water through to the metal, corrosion can start underneath, often showing as white or grey bubbling under the paint. If it spreads, more of the wheel needs preparing before it is painted, so it is worth having it looked at while the damage is still small.

Diamond cut wheels

A diamond cut wheel has a bright face machined on a lathe, usually with painted sections between the spokes. That finish needs a wheel lathe, and we do not offer it. Painting over a machined face changes the look of the wheel, so if yours are diamond cut, ask us before you book.

Cracked wheels and hard knocks

Refurbishment renews the finish of the wheel and is not a safety check of it.

If a wheel has taken a hard knock, or you notice vibration or a tyre that keeps losing air, have it checked by a wheel specialist or tyre centre before you book. Those signs can mean the wheel is bent or cracked.

Tyres on or off

Refurbishment is best done with the tyres off, because the whole rim can then be prepared and painted right up to its edge. We can also do the work with the tyres on. Tell us which you plan when you book.

Price and inspection

The final figure for each wheel depends on the paint chosen and how much repair each wheel needs, for example deep kerb gouges or only light scuffs. A small inspection is free.

Looking after refurbished wheels

Clean the wheels with a product made for painted and lacquered alloys, and keep acidic or very strong cleaners off them. Leave a little space at the kerb when you park, as the outer edge of the rim touches first. A fresh chip is worth seeing to before water gets under the paint.
