What a scratch needs depends on its depth. A mark that stays in the clear lacquer can often be taken out with scratch removal and machine polishing, from £120 plus VAT (£144 including VAT) per panel. Once it reaches the colour coat, polishing will not remove it, and it needs paint.
A small chip or short scratch may only need a touch-up, from £49 plus VAT (£58.80 including VAT). Anything larger may mean repainting the panel. Paint is mixed to your car's manufacturer paint code. On a panel repaint, the new colour can be blended into the paint around it to help hide the join.
Cost-Effective Car Respray Solutions
A single panel repaint starts from £150 plus VAT (£180 including VAT). A full respray starts from £1,495 plus VAT (£1,794 including VAT) and takes 3 to 7 days. Every price is a "from" price, and the final figure is set after we inspect the car.
For a respray, the old finish is prepared, and chips and dents are repaired where needed. On a panel repaint, the area is prepared and primed where needed before the colour coat, and clear lacquer goes on top. All paint at Coventry Body Shop is sprayed in our spray booth by the director, a former Aston Martin technician and painter, who is the only person painting customers' cars.
Advanced Auto Body Repair Techniques
A dent where the paint has not cracked may be worked out with paintless dent repair, keeping the existing paint. Prices are per panel: from £90 plus VAT (£108 including VAT) for a small dent and from £185 plus VAT (£222 including VAT) for a medium one.
When the paint is damaged too, panel dent repair and respray starts from £175 plus VAT (£210 including VAT). Bent panels are straightened by panel beating, and a bolt-on panel that cannot be saved, such as a bumper or a front wing, can be replaced. We do not cut or weld metal panels. If your car needs that, we will tell you and recommend a garage we have trusted with welding work before.
Precision in Paint Correction and Colour Matching
Paint correction is machine polishing that can take swirl marks and light scratches out of the paint surface, depending on how deep they go. Polishing removes a little of the surface, and we have a paint depth gauge for checking the paint thickness. Lacquer that is lifting or peeling cannot be polished back, and the affected area needs painting.
The same colour can vary a little between factory batches and fade with age. Our colour matching uses the manufacturer's paint code, specialist colour mixing and a spectrophotometer.
SMART Repair for Minor Scratches
SMART stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technology. A SMART repair aims to keep the work to a small area around a chip, scuff or scratch instead of painting the whole panel. It starts from £75 plus VAT (£90 including VAT).
Small jobs can sometimes be finished the same day, but allow 1 to 2 days. Some damage needs a wider repair to look right, and we will say so when we see the car.
Machine Polishing and Paint Protection
Coventry Body Shop offers machine polishing and paint protection. Polishing can take out light swirl marks, but stone chips and scratches through the paint need a repair.
Fresh paint has to cure before protection goes on, so after a repair, ask us how long to wait.
