Classic Car Restoration

We repair and repaint the bodywork of classic and older cars at our workshop in Wyken, Coventry. Panel work covers straightening bent panels, rear quarters included, and replacing bolt-on panels such as wings and doors. Paintwork runs from a single panel up to a full respray. We do not cut or weld metal panels. If your car needs that, we will tell you and recommend a garage we have trusted with welding work before.

How we approach classics

The final price for a classic is set after we have looked at the car. A small inspection is free.

We measure paint thickness across the panels with a paint depth gauge. A reading well above the rest of the car can point to an earlier respray or to filler under the surface, and that can change the preparation a panel needs. Our paint depth measurement guide covers how the gauge works.

A bent panel is straightened back into shape. A bolt-on panel that is past saving can be replaced instead. Where rust has eaten through the metal, or the repair would mean cutting out a section and welding in new steel, that part of the job is outside what we do, and we will tell you when we inspect the car.

Paint and colour on an older car

We work from the manufacturer's paint code, and the colour is made up with specialist colour mixing. Paint on an old car has often faded over the years, so where needed the new colour is blended into the panels next to the repair rather than stopping at a hard edge.

Panel repaints go through filler, primer, colour and lacquer, and all paintwork is sprayed in our spray booth. The company director is our main painter and the only person who touches the paint.
