What our Coventry bodyshop repairs
Coventry Body Shop is a single car body repair and paint workshop in Wyken, Coventry. We repair scratches and dents, and we respray single panels or whole cars. All paintwork is sprayed in our spray booth.
We are a small team. The company director, a former Aston Martin technician and painter, is our only painter, so any panel that needs paint is sprayed by him. Every price on this page is a from price, and we set the final figure after inspecting the car. For paintwork, it depends on the paint chosen and the work the car needs.
How we repair scratches
How a scratch is repaired depends on how deep it goes. Modern car paint is usually a colour coat under a clear lacquer, with primer beneath both. A scratch that stays in the lacquer can often be polished out, while one that has cut through the colour needs paint.
Machine polishing levels the edges of a light scratch by taking off a very thin layer of lacquer. It suits swirl marks and light scratches, but it cannot put back paint that is missing. We charge for scratch removal and machine polish per panel, from £120 plus VAT (£144 including VAT).
Small stone chips and short, deep marks can be touched up. The spot is cleaned and prepared, then paint mixed to your car's paint code goes on the damaged area only. Prices for paint touch-up begin at £49 plus VAT (£58.80 including VAT). A long scratch through the colour generally means repainting the panel.
Dents: paintless repair or repair and respray
Paintless dent repair works a dent back out, normally from behind the panel, so the original paint stays on the car. It suits some dents only. The paint has to be unbroken, and a sharp crease or stretched metal can be beyond what the method can do.
We price paintless dent repair per panel: from £90 plus VAT (£108 including VAT) for a small dent, or from £185 plus VAT (£222 including VAT) for a medium dent. There is no fixed size rule. Whether a dent counts as small or medium is decided at inspection.
When the paint has cracked, or the dent is too sharp for paintless repair, the panel is repaired and repainted. The metal is straightened by panel beating, then filled and primed where needed. Colour and lacquer follow in the spray booth, and where it helps, the new colour is blended into the surrounding paint to hide the join. This kind of panel dent repair and respray is priced from £175 plus VAT (£210 including VAT).
Bumper repair and bumper resprays
Bumpers often take the knocks from parking and low-speed bumps, and on modern cars they are mostly plastic. A scuffed corner can often be repaired and painted. Some cracks in a plastic bumper can be plastic welded and filled, and a bumper past repair can be replaced.
Paint for a bumper is mixed to the car's paint code and sprayed in the booth like any other panel. Our bumper respray price starts at £210 plus VAT (£252 including VAT). Bumper repair for a cracked or split bumper is priced after inspection.
SMART repair for small scratches and scuffs
SMART repair (small to medium area repair technique) keeps the work to the damaged spot instead of refinishing the whole panel. It suits small scuffs and scratches, and it is often a smaller job than painting a panel. SMART repair costs from £75 plus VAT (£90 including VAT).
It is not the right repair for every mark. A long scratch that runs across two panels, or damage on a panel edge, may look better with the affected panels painted. We will tell you which approach we think suits the damage once we have seen it.
Single panel paint and full resprays
A single panel repaint is for one panel, such as a door or a wing, that needs new paint after a repair or because its paint has failed. Painting one panel through our Car Body Paint (Single Panel) service costs from £150 plus VAT (£180 including VAT).
For a full body respray, allow 3 to 7 days, depending on the work the car needs; the price starts at £1,495 plus VAT (£1,794 including VAT). Paint prices vary from one colour and paint type to the next, and bodywork that needs more preparation takes longer. For that reason a respray, or a change of colour, is quoted after inspection.
Before colour goes on, the old surface is sanded, and filler and primer go on where the repair needs them. Colour matching uses the manufacturer's paint code, specialist colour mixing and a spectrophotometer. Colour and lacquer are both sprayed in our spray booth.
Bent panels and replacement panels
Bent panels are straightened by panel beating, rear quarter panels included. Where a bolt-on panel such as a wing or a door is too badly damaged to repair, it can be replaced. A new panel may arrive unpainted or in primer, in which case it is painted to match the rest of the car.
We do not cut or weld metal panels. A part that needs replacing is priced in the quote you get before work starts.
Paint protection and detailing
Paint that looks dull or is covered in fine swirl marks may only need machine polishing. Paint protection is also part of our paint protection and detailing service, carried out at the workshop; we do not apply ceramic coatings or offer full detailing.
Paint protection does not repair scratches or chips. The price for this work is set after we have seen the condition of the paint.
Alloy wheels and headlights
Our alloy wheel refurbishment is a full refurbishment and respray of kerbed or scuffed alloys. We prefer to work on wheels with the tyres off, although we also do them with the tyres fitted. There is no diamond cut finish, and cracked wheels are not repaired here, because a crack needs welding.
Cloudy or yellowed headlight lenses can be restored and then finished with a UV protective coat. Headlight restoration is priced per lens, from £85 plus VAT (£102 including VAT).
Lease return repairs
Before a leased car goes back, bodywork damage can be put right with our lease return repairs, from £150 plus VAT (£180 including VAT). Check your lease company's return requirements first, so you know which marks they will charge for.
Classic cars and commercial vehicles
We also take on classic car restoration, covering bodywork and paint; as on any car, we do not cut or weld metal panels. Our fleet and commercial bodywork service covers vans and fleet vehicles. Both are priced after inspection, because the work varies so much from one vehicle to the next.
Insurance claims and accident damage
We are fully insured, and we are not on any insurer's approved repairer list. We have repaired cars for customers who were claiming on their insurance. If you are making a claim, we can provide photographs and a quote for your insurer. Your insurer can explain what your policy covers and how its claims process works.
After a collision, the damage you can see is not always all of it. A bumper can hide bent brackets behind it, and a panel gap that has changed can point to damage further in. If you are unsure whether the car is safe to drive, have it inspected before you use it again. We can help with a claim after an accident through our insurance and accident repair support.
Inspections and estimates
A small inspection is free. The deep inspection is charged from £200 plus VAT (£240 including VAT), and that fee is taken off the repair bill if you go ahead with the work. After either inspection you get a quote before any work starts.
There is no deposit to pay, and you can cancel or move a booking at any point free of charge. Small jobs can sometimes be done the same day, depending on how busy we are, but allow 1 to 2 days. Drivers from within about 100 miles can bring their car to the workshop.
